FREMONT MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND MEMBER REQUIREMENTS
Welcome to the Fremont Middle School Band program. Remember that you have a responsibility to the group to do your part to be the best band member that you can be. Remember your music, instrument and good attitude and many things will be accomplished throughout the school year.
1. All Band members are required to attend the concerts in which they are performing.
2. All band members will perform scales, and etudes for Mr. Steager or Miss Stara. Each excerpt will have a suggested tempo. You can go to metronomeonline.com and use a metronome when you practice.
3. 7th and 8th grade students must wear Black pants or skirt, Black Shoes and the MUSIC shirt cost of $10.00 for public performances! Shirts must be tucked in at all times!!!!!
4. Playing at home is essential for a band member to improve and to contribute to the success of the organization. A weekly assignment of 90 minutes of playing time will exist throughout the school year. Playing time is part of the student grade. A playing record is included and should be monitored by the parents and logged in every week at the steager band page located on the middle school website. You have invested in your child’s musical endeavors, keep them playing in order to improve!!!
5. Each student will have their own folder and should take the music home to practice in between band classes. Weekends are a great time to take home instruments and music.
6. Your son or daughter should have their instrument labeled with name, address and phone number using an instrument tag. It is a great idea to keep the make, model, serial number and amount of purchase in your records.
7. Concert attendance, classroom participation and effort are the main ingredients to your child’s grade. Ability is not graded, however improvement, attitude and willingness to work together have a large impact on the success of our band.
8. Classroom Rules:
A. Be on time, in your chair, with music, ready to play on the downbeat!
B. Mr. Steager talks, you listen.
C. Questions??? Raise your hand!!!!
D. Be polite and courteous at all times, to Mr. Steager and fellow band members!
E. Keep your instrument in good working order, slides moveable, good reed etc…
